Nice footwear. Got a pair of Sanuk's.
I recently just visited this store because my family and I were looking to see whether or not they had some shoes that could be to our liking. So we went inside and looked around. Nobody greeted us or anything, but we began to see what the store had to offer. We also tried on some shoes, but put them back afterwards after seeing that they weren't to our liking. By the time we had exited the store, we still had not been acknowledged by an employee. We did feel a bit uncomfortable when we noticed that there was one who was on the phone and was eyeing us. Once we went out of the store and did some more walking around the mall, we were approached by security officers who received a call from the store to check us because the employee who was eyeing us believed that we had stolen something. Now, I'd like to say this: As an employee, it is part of your responsibility to ensure that all customers receive a satisfactory experience, even if they don't end up buying something. If you suspect them to have committed a wrongful act of some sort, just come over to them and check up on them every now and then. But this employee never did. After our confrontation by the security officers, we felt even more uncomfortable, upset, and hurt. They asked us to reveal what was underneath our clothing and also what was in our bags/purses. Honestly, I can't understand why the employee would make the call when they could've just approached us. And this particular employee was checking us out, so surely they would've spotted something suspicious. After all of this, I called the store and asked to speak with the manager, but the employee who answered just tried to work things out with me with them self. I wasn't sure if this employee was the same one who called the officers on us, but I proceeded to tell them what had happened to my family and I. The conversation we had honestly did not help at all. The employee was being sympathetic, but I couldn't tell if they were being genuine. They also said that part of their policy is that if an employee suspects that a customer has committed a wrongdoing, then they must phone a security officer. But so many factors must be considered before doing so, which I feel like isn't an explicit part of this store's rules. And towards the end of the conversation, the employee offered us a 10% discount. I guess I appreciate the offer, but that's honestly not going to help with anything. Now as I'm thinking back on what just happened, I can't help but think that my ethnicity played a part in the employee's decision to confront us about something we did not do. My family and I are asian, and the employee who made the call was white. I do not like to make accusations such as this, but this is what I have come to believe: We were wrongfully accused of theft due to our ethnicity. Now, if you're someone who has visited this store and had a good experience, I'm happy for you. But for those who are thinking about taking a look around in The Flip Flop Shop, please keep in mind what happened to my family and I. Obviously, I will never come to this store EVER again.
Really sweet employee.
