Penn was going to be my go to shop but after seeing the lack of customer service I don't see myself going back.
The owner Pat is SO awesome, friendly, fun and extremely helpful! All the staff there are awesome too and each spoke highly of Pat. It's obviously a great place to work and it certainly is a great place to go for all of your bicycle needs! I went in for a tune-up and Pat looked at my bike right away and was in and out in about 15 minutes!
I've bought 2 bikes at the Bloomington location this spring. Overall we had good experiences there. The last few times however have been disappointing. I wanted to get my wife a hybrid so she didn't have to ride her Farley on the street. We weren't greeted and after standing around for 20 minutes waiting for help we decided to leave(they were not busy)Went to Freewheel, bought a Trek FX for her and with great service. Penn did have a lower price but Freewheel price matches so no big deal.
My previous visit to Penn, I just needed a water bottle. I actually had to walk into the back and ask to be checked out. They just don't seem very organized.
I went to Penn Cycle today to get my jogging stroller tire repaired. I pulled up to the front of the store and ask the gentlemen to come out at look at it. I stated I had two kids in the the car and he came out, removed the tire and stated he could fix it. I asked him to come and get me when it was ready. It took him about 5 minutes and he notified me it was ready. I parked in front went in and paid for it. He was helpful. He carried the tire out and put it back on. He showed my mechanically inclined self how to uninstall and reinstall the wheel. I use my stroller daily. I have two kids under 2. It's my life.! Thanks Bucky for saving the day.
I bought an on board computer there and they didn't set it for the right wheel size after charging me 10 bucks for putting it on. Miscalibrated my distances and speeds because of this. They seem like decent enough people but kind of "bike snobs" because I didn't want to spend 1,800 to 4,000 bucks on a fat tire bike. Went to another shop and got great service and a great fat tire bike for 800.
I brought my bike up to Penn to have some peddles put on and the woman working the counter was besides herself that my father and I dare interrupt her while she was slacking off at work. She was abrasive and rude during the entire transaction until the very end when she had to look me in the eye. The rest of the employees hid in the back shop refusing to masks eye contact. Worst customer service treatment I've had in years. Still like Penn, been going there for 20 years, but some disappointing service staff right now
